Shear Stress Calculations

Shear stresses can be checked from the Control Panel or the Constructed Waterway Designer (see previous page). The screen is shown below. There are buttons to move the water surface level to the Top of the Low Flow Channel and to the 1% level. Shear stresses can be factored up for cross-sections on a bend, and the unfactored shear stresses can be compared with those in HEC-RAS. The Segment(s) with the highest shear stress in the Left Overbank, Low Flow Channel and Right Overbank are highlighted in red.
